FIFA Statement Changes Nothing

UEFA has rejected FIFA’s recent public defense of Gianni Infantino, stating the organization’s backing “changes nothing” and that the conditions required to call off the boycott remain unmet. The European governing body emphasized that despite FIFA’s statement on Wednesday night, it has not been provided with any certainty that the crisis of the past nine days will not recur.

The dispute originated from Infantino’s privately funded Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE) scheme. Last week, UEFA’s 55 member associations agreed to boycott FIFA tournaments if Infantino did not withdraw the plan. Although the FFE was scrapped last Friday, UEFA insisted that the terms necessary to avert the boycott have not been satisfied.

This stance adds to the institutional pressure on Infantino, who has faced growing dissent since the controversy began. The continued standoff suggests that the withdrawal of the FFE alone is insufficient to reconcile the relationship between European football’s governing body and FIFA’s leadership.
