Raducanu Withdraws from US Open With Recurring Stress Fracture

Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from the US Open. A stress fracture in her right leg, sustained during the grass-court season, has kept the British No. 1 sidelined for a third consecutive Grand Slam and forced her to pull out of Wimbledon as well.

Her medical team advised the withdrawal. Raducanu has said she is still not fully fit and not yet ready to return to tournament play.

She first underwent surgery for a stress fracture in September 2023. The injury recurred, delaying her return until the 2024 Australian Open, which she missed entirely. Her comeback match came at the Qatar Open in February, where she lost in straight sets to Yulia Putintseva in just under an hour. That was her only appearance of 2024. The French Open, Wimbledon, and now the US Open have passed without her.

Match Count and Ranking Impact

At 22, Raducanu has played fewer than 20 WTA tour-level matches across the last two and a half seasons. She has not advanced past the second round of any Grand Slam since winning Wimbledon in 2022.

Her world ranking sits outside the top 100. The points from her 2022 title have expired, and she is rebuilding without the safety net of defended ranking points.

No Target Tournament Identified

There are no immediate plans for her comeback, and no specific tournament has been identified as a target. The priority is complete recovery, not competition. The US Open field is being assembled without her. The September hard-court swing will proceed in her absence.
